Issues
Washington State is facing the greatest set of challenges it has faced in the last 60 years. From jobs to fiscal responsibility to education, Washington State has not been governed very well. As citizens of Washington, we need our leadership to go beyond good intentions and to get results. We need the leadership from both parties to work together to create solutions. And we need our leadership to listen to the will of the people. That’s not happening in Washington State today. On the following pages are some of my thoughts on the issues facing us today, and some potential solutions!
Jobs and the Economy
TO CREATE JOBS, our state government needs three things: a balanced budget, a competitive business environment, and great schools. A balanced budget creates a solid platform for economic growth and reduces uncertainty; a competitive business environment attracts investment and jobs; and great schools prepare a capable work force. On all three of these things, our state government falls short.
Environment
Washington State has always been about quality of life, the beauty of our state, and enjoying the outdoors. It is also about providing public safety for our citizens, so we can securely and safely enjoy our many benefits.
Education
All of our children deserve the opportunity to stand on the shoulders of their parents and teachers, to see beyond what we see and to dream greater dreams than ours. That is the major growth engine driving progress in America. And it is part of the American dream!
